Joy to the world! The Lord has come! The Steele Creek church plant has been trying to do its part to celebrate Jesus during the Advent and Christmas seasons. We selected the theme "Jesus, the Light of the World" and developed a devotional guide to help us individually and collectively focus on Christ daily. The guide came with the gift of a scented candle so we could maintain the theme of light during the week. We also had an evening of worship where we praised Jesus with music. It was a beautiful and moving time.
At the beginning of each Sunday gathering during Advent and Christmas, we had a candle lighting liturgy. This liturgy combined the themes of Advent (hope, peace, joy, love, and Christ himself on Christmas) with the core values of the church plant (justice, unity, celebration, belonging, and truth). These themes and values were reinforced by the devotional guide's daily readings and liturgy.
As followers of Christ, the one who embodied the mission of the Father to the world, we wanted to be a blessing to those around us. We decided to bake cookies and hand them out to our neighbors -- those who live on the same block as the home in which we meet on Sundays. This delicious act of love was well received by the neighbors and had a snowball effect. Other gifts were exchanged and new friends made by this simple act.
Of course, we also made time to enjoy each other's fellowship and hospitality at a few Christmas parties. It is important for us to continue to strengthen our relationships and have fun together. What use is taking a trip if you cannot enjoy the journey?
We pray that you are enjoying your journey and this update is bringing you some holiday cheer. The Steele Creek church plant wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Let every heart prepare him room!
